The Wakehurst Collection
Today we visited Wakehurst Gardens and got to try out the Sigma 50mm 1.4. Its amazing the difference of bokeh between the Sigma lens and the Nikon 50mm 1.8. The Sigma bokeh is much more smoother, creamy, whereas the Nikon has that extra crisp, sharpness to it. Both performed better in sunlight, however, the tones in the Sigma were less saturated.

The Nikor lens is better for me as it blurs the bokeh more. The Sigma lens maybe has more blades in the diaphragm it makes for rounder bokeh. Try testing both at different apertures... on out of focus Christmas tree lights. You will then see what difference there is. At various f#s that is the determinator. I don't do much shooting wide open so ignore this if you want.
ReplyDeleteI purchased a Sigma f2.8 150mm macro lens before Christmas as it offered more than the Zuiko for my Olympus. Prime lenses are brilliant for big prints but for the web are a waste of money.
Beautiful pictures and I do appreciate them. By the time I'd got set up then the blossom would have fallen or I would have destroyed it with the lens filter. Filters, buy B-W, hunt for second hand they are mega bucks new. Not as expensive as a new front element though!

ReplyDeleteAdrian: Thanks for the tips. I do prefer the Nikor lens too - the bokeh is just incredible and weighs just half of what the Sigma carries.
I would love to test out the Canon 50mm 1.2L lens and see what the bokeh is like!
